Sean nabbed his wallet with his free hand, releasing her arm at the same time. He opened it and found fifteen dollars in bills and a couple dollars in change. He emptied this into his hand and passed it to her, slipping the wallet back into his pocket. "I believe I mentioned that I wasn't carrying very much cash," he commented aloud with a smile.
"You seem to have returned to a normal state," he said with a smile, "Though I would have thought that you would have switched as soon as you realized that I wasn't biting." He shrugged, "Ah well, to each his own." He motioned towards her, "Or her own in this case."
He motioned for her to follow him, "Come on, let me take you home."

Confused, Yevrin placed the money into her pouch tied to the back of her belt, then started walking. She kept her eyes on him, still fingering the dagger at her back. This was not the normal behavior of a man who had just been robbed. True, it was only around fifteen dollars, so he might not want to make a hassle over it, but you do not just hand the money over and offer to walk the thief home. He was too confident. Confidence came from power, and as she was almost certain that she could handle this man in a fight, his confidence must come from knowledge. But she had not been in this town long enough to develop a reputation, and she had never seen Sean before, so he could not possibly know about her. "Who, or what are you?" she asked.

"I already told you," he said over his shoulder to her. "Were you not listening in the bar? My name's Sean. That's about all there is to know about me." He shrugged his shoulders, continuing to walk forward. She would direct him to where they needed to go.
He wasn't about to reveal his own position as a thief for hire. She was a thief as well, seemingly for her own personal gain. Sean stole for other people and used the payment to live by. That way he was guaranteed a good life. Because no matter how small a trinket was he was paid a good sum of money. His identity as a thief, who went by the name of Nightshade...whom she might know, might not. But he didn't want to give away his secret so easily. She was a thief after all, who knew what she could do with the knowledge. He had more than a handful of enemies.

"I know your name is Sean, but what are you? You're definitely not an average person," Yevrin said, stopping and crossing her arms over her chest, annoyed. "You don't just hand a person money after they've stolen it from you. People don' t do that; if they did they'd find themselves with nothing very quickly. You didn't even cause a scene. If you had, I wouldn't have been able to work that bar again for a long time." She looked him over again. He still looked like an ordinary, average person. But she knew that could not be true. His answer had been to vague too. He was hiding something. She was annoyed with him for having a secret she did not know, but for the same reason that made him interesting and appealing to her curious nature. "Why walk me home?"

"I'm just an easy going guy," Sean said with a shrug, "I've always been that way. I'm not the kind of person to make a fuss over something...especially not twenty bucks." He reached into his hip pocket, revealing a twenty dollar bill. "And I'm not left with nothing either...I stuck this in my pocket not too long ago so I'm not completely broke."
He looked around happily, "Plus I think walking around with you might make my leg feel a bit better. If you rest a little too much your injuries will take longer to heal. That kind of philosophy gets me through life."

Yevrin looked at the twenty dollars and sighed. This guy had beat her. He might have even more money stashed in various pockets, but there was no point dwelling on it. There was no way that she could get her hands on it without resorting to violence, which she did not want to do. She was not a common mugger. "Just an easy going guy, huh?" She gave a small laugh, the first natural one of the evening. She was definitely amused. Still annoyed that he had bested her, but amused none the less. He obviously was not what he appeared, but it seemed he was going to keep whatever his secret was his secret. It would be fun to pry it out of him. She started walking again, but she walked next to him rather than at a distance. She even let her arms drop to her side without fingering at a weapon -except for the habitual brush now and then. "So Sean, how does an easy going guy get a leg wound like that?"

"Wrong place, wrong time," Sean sighed unhappily. "I came across some bandits in the forest...and they weren't too pleased that I was there and started shooting." He looked down at his leg, "Nothing really serious...but it hurts sometimes even though it's only a graze...nothing more."
He yawned, covering his mouth with his hand casually. It wasn't that he was tired, he could still keep going a long time. But he had been up for quite some time and really should think about getting more sleep...that or a nice hot shower.

"And you were in the woods in the first place for what? A pleasure walk?" Yevrin asked, trying to pry further. If he had met bandits, and only escaped with a graze, he was either a very good runner or something interesting had happened. Also, though she had tried to rob him, it was only a simple pickpocketing. He looked like he had enough to interest one person, but not enough that a band of bandits would go for him. So why did they? She was starting to be less sore about only getting some of his money. He was much more useful as entertainment rather than a source of income.

"I got a little lost I'm afraid," Sean said with an embarressed chuckle. He was able to mask this lie quite easily, he was used to putting on characters so lying was no problem for him. "And I came across a cabin which I assumed was empty...it wasn't. He smiled, "But I was very lucky, they happened to shoot me in front of some demon lizard. He helped me out quite a bit and got rid of them. I'm afraid they would have killed me if he hadn't stepped in and I did nothing wrong."

Nothing wrong. Somehow she doubted it. Yevrin had no proof on which to base her assumption, but she had heard the phrase used too many times to believe it right away. It was almost the catch phrase of the guilty man. It was not as if she cared if he was doing anything that might not be considered legal. It would just make the story more interesting if he was. The demon lizard was somewhat amusing, if a bit far-fetched. "More detail," she demanded. "You can't expect to be a good story teller if you leave it like that. What did the lizard thing do? How many bandits were after you? Did you see them doing anything that made them have to kill you? Cruel Lachesis is crying, you have so little consideration for your audience Sean."

Sean laughed openly this time, "I don't believe you have the right to pry into my private life," he chastised her lightly. "If I remember correctly: you tried to steal from me and I let you get away with the money. Therefore I believe I should be the one running this conversation." He waggled a finger back and forth with a disapproving look. This look soon melted into a smile.
"There's really not that much to tell," he sighed, "I was making my way through the forest and I got lost and came across a run down cabin which I assumed was empty. I stepped inside to find...oh about a dozen of these so called bandits. They seemed to believe that I was there for some other reason, I believe they thought I was an agent from another group, something along those lines. They chased me to a river, shot me in the leg just in time to have me topple into the water. The lizard stepped in at this point and warded them off not after they labelled me a spy and whatnot and they claimed they wanted only to 'question' me which means death to any intelligent human."
"Was that enough information for you?"

"No," Yevrin replied, pouting playfully. It was more though, and it was definitely useful. A large group of bandits would not be so paranoid as to hunt down a lone man unless he had seen something interesting, or they had good reasons to suspect him as being something other than a lost traveler. She should know; she had dealt with bandits on a few occasions back in her home world, and most tended to be arrogant pigs. Sean had not given any detail as to what he saw in the cabin. He was still keeping secrets. As well, she had heard enough about the story now to judge it a half truth rather than a lie. If it had been a lie, details would have been given easier, if cautiously so that he could remember and not be trapped in a lie. Since most of what was said stuck to the same plot with sketchy details, she decided it was a half truth. However, half truth was not good enough for her. Yevrin was really enjoying this. She was coming to enjoy this walk more than she thought she would, and was therefore starting to actually like Sean. The man was interesting, thus amusing. She almost felt bad for a second about their walk. She had seen him yawn a while back, and knew that his leg must hurt, even if he was not in excruciating pain, but this walk was not about to end any time soon. She was not leading them to her current place of residence -she liked Sean, but she did not trust him- and this walk would not end until she had gotten his secret. "Why would they think you were a spy? Are you sure you didn't see them doing anything suspicious? And where were you going that you ended up lost in a wood with bandits?" She smiled up at him. "More details please."

Sean had two options, he could either tell the truth and disappoint her. He had gone to the cottage to steal something, a small trinket that had been stolen from someone else, and then return it to its rightful owner. He had walked in on them gambling and they had jumped to conclusions. Then had come after him for seemingly no reason and viewed him as a spy for a rival instead of a thief...which was an over reaction but they had wanted to question him instead of kill him and he wasn't sure what was worse. But he hadn't seen anything interesting and there wasn't much to tell.
His other option was to hide this fact and tease the woman a bit. She was becoming a little too nosey and she had to be stopped at one point or another or his whole life story would be out in the open.
He decided to go with that route.
"Nope," he answered happily, folding his arms over his chest. "I think I've told enough to the woman who tried to take my wallet."

Yevrin crossed her arms over her chest, sulking. "I thought you weren't holding that against me anymore." She paused, then smiled mischievously. "And technically, I succeeded in taking your wallet; I just gave it back. Don't I get any slack for that. I could have just bolted you know. Or, if you haven't noticed," she motioned to the sword that hung at her hip, "Things could have gotten violent as well. Don't I get any credit for taking the higher road?" She ran a bit ahead of him so she could turn around to face him, walking backward with her hands on her hips. She smiled playfully. They were almost playing a game of cat and mouse, except the interesting thing about this game was that there were two cats and no mouse. "I think I deserve a better story for that, don't you?"

Sean chuckled, high road indeed. He could have stopped her from taking his wallet as soon as he felt her hand go for it but he had let her think she had won. But he wasn't going to punch a hole in her balloon. So he just smiled at her and didn't say anything to the earlier comments. He didn't hold it against her but he wasn't going to give her any slack, she was a thief after all. A female thief at that. Most of them had no honour and would screw you over in a heartbeat. As for things getting violent...in that case he would have just stolen his wallet back, easily done and then bolted. Also easily done.
She moved ahead of him, giving another coy response. He grinned, "I don't think you 'deserve' anything from me...if I tell you anything more then it will be out of the goodness of my own heart, not duty of any sort. And I don't feel like telling you anything else."
