The afternoon sun flittered through the browning forest canopy of the bayou, sending ribbons of soft sunlight cascading to the ground. It was eerily silent in the swamp this day, making Swaizzo rather paranoid about his current surroundings. He was on a minor delivery mission in the Bayou alone [much to his dismay], and with him he carried the small parcel of which he was to transport there. Apparently, there were actually people dwelling in this extremely isolated location, and their house was situated in the southern region of the area. So far, Swaizzo has managed to make it half way on foot without any sort of injury or hindrance. He was at least confident that he could handle a situation if one were to arise, seeing as he always carried a pistol or two around his waist belt. "Alright, where the hell am I now," He muttered crossly, reaching into his pocket to retrieve a compass. Bringing it out, he flipped its cover open and watched with a raised eyebrow as the needle spun wildly, giving no subtle hint as to where he should head next. Of course - the damned thing was broken... "Fantastic..." He sighed and his shoulders slumped wearily. All he could do now was use his instict and guess which way to resume his journey, but that sounded like risky business... He let himself fall sideways and came to lean against a bog tree standing beside him. Tossing the compass to the ground in a huff, he pressed his foot upon it and dug the useless contraption into the muddy swamp soil. He would make sure to give whomever sold him that thing a piece of his mind tomorrow...For now, he would have to make do with mulling over what an idiot he was for taking on this ridiculous mission alone.

In a brief flash of light, Yevrin appeared from nowhere. Unfortunately, she appeared a foot above the ground. She just barely managed to keep her balance and keep from falling into the mud she landed in. She looked at the ground, and in front of her, and cursed whatever twist of Fate that had landed her here. She had hired a magic user to teleport her to a new world, the world where the person she was hunting was currently on, but look where it had gotten her. In mud, in a swamp, with no civilization in sight, and no loose purses to pick. She extracted one foot from the mire, and looked with distaste at the mud clinging to her boot. "Damn it! I swear this is the last time I ever trust a magic user to do anything!" she yelled in frustration. She knew that some time in the future circumstances would probably force her to hire another magic user to do something for her -as they always had- but she chose to ignore that for now. She glared at the swamp in front of her, then sighed as she resigned herself to the task of finding a way out of this swamp. She turned to see her full surroundings, and was surprised to see an odd creature just a bit behind her, leaning against a tree. She tilted her head as she considered the thing. She had never seen anything like it before. "How strange..." she murmured to herself as she walked closer to it. She stopped about a meter from it, and leaned over, looking the odd creature up and down. Finally, after staring at it for a moment -and looking as if she wanted to poke it- she asked, "What are you?"

"Eh?" Swaizzo's head jolted upwards in surprise, only to lock eyes with the owner of the inquiring voice. How bizarre - there was actually another person trudging and traipsing their way through the muck of the swamp, although this human seemed to be just as lost as Swaizzo currently found himself. "Wait, what am I?" Her question finally registered. Cocking an eyebrow suspiciously, he pointed his finger at himself and answered, "I'm Swaizzo, a hybrid I guess you could say..." Narrowing his eyes, he took a few steps closer to the mysterious stranger and returned her query with one of his own. "Now, who are you? And how the hell did you managed to walk this far into the swamp?" Certainly she couldn't have arrived here unaided - her attire was obviously unfit for stomping through sticky mud and water. She didn't seem very certain of her present surroundings, anyhow.. "You're not from around here, are you...You do know that you're in Coast Lamiere right now, right?"

'A hybrid hm,' Yevrin thought amusedly. There definitely were not any creatures like this on her home world, thus her curiosity increased. She stood straight and answered him, "My name is Yevrin, and I definitely would never choose to walk out into this swamp. I did not walk here, I just... got here. I hired a magic user from the world I was just on to send me to the world the person I'm looking for is on, and ended up here. You said this place is called Coast Lamiere? I hope it isn't just this awful swamp, there has to be a town somewhere right?" She sulked as she looked around her surroundings again, as if hoping that her earlier surveillance had been wrong. However, there were absolutely no signs of civilization, let alone another living person in sight. Wilderness was so boring, and Yevrin hated being bored. Thus she returned her attention to the only amusing thing around -Swaizzo. "So what brings you out into this dismal swamp anyway?" she asked.

Swaizzo heaved a sigh from his chest and slumped forwards, "I’m here on a delivery mission…" He replied miserably, lifting up the package he held in his left hand to show Yevrin, "- By myself, in a swamp I’ve never really been to before…so I guess I’m just as lost as you are." Interesting…So it seemed that the Coast was now a new home for a particularly curious human. No doubt that could only spell trouble…Swaizzo shrugged - it wasn’t as if he couldn’t use another adventurous companion around on his day on the island, so who was he to complain? “If you’re looking for a town to stay in, Abastecimiento is back up north, that way.” He answered her previous question with a point in the right direction. “I could take you back there myself, but I have to carry this damned package over to its proper owners first…” Straightening up, he rested his free hand against his waist while another heavy sigh escaped him. This swamp was certainly an ugly place to look at…Complete with an eerie silence that never seemed to break, and ominous-looking plant-life in all directions. It made Swaizzo uneasy - as it would any person - and for once in his career as a courier, he wanted to drop off his assignment without any detours and get out of the area as fast as his legs could carry him... These thoughts couldn’t have been more apparent in his mind than when a soft but sudden rumble quaked beneath the mud in which he stood. His fur spiked around his neck and an involuntary shiver crawled up his spine, nearly causing him to drop the parcel. "Eh, hey Yevrin..." Swaizzo laughed nervously and hopped rather hastily over to her, "Let's say you and me forget that I have to deliver this stuff, and get ourselves outta here right now, hm...?" He turned his head and peered over to where his previous spot was, "I think things might be better of that way here..."

Getting out of the swamp and into a city was a very good idea in Yevrin's mind. She wanted out of this mire and into a proper inn and she highly doubted she'd find one out here. As well, she had absolutely no idea where the town he mentioned actually was, and travel directions had never been her strong point. What really caught her attention, however, was the fact that Swaizzo was a delivery person. "Sure, we can go to the town," she replied distractedly. Then she asked, "You make deliveries... so you must see and meet all kinds of people correct?" She opened her vest and pulled out a rolled up scroll from an inner pocket. She unrolled it, revealing a picture of a man, and on the poster were written the words: Have you see this Jerk? She held it out to Swaizzo and asked him, "Have you ever seen this jerk? It's really important that I find him; he owes me money. He looks like this and he's a jerk, oh and his name is...Boon. So have you seen him?"

Swaizzo took one glimpse of the man’s picture and shook his head in response. "Nope, sorry, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that guy around here before." He returned his gaze to Yevrin with a rather perplexed look, "Maybe you have the wrong place or something--" His sentence was cut short abruptly, when the rumbling that had triggered Swaizzo’s anxiety before returned with added force. He turned away from Yevrin and lifted one foot off of the ground, staring warily at the trembling earth underneath them. It was true that he had never been to a swamp before, but his instincts told him that this was not normal behavior for mud... He tapped one toe upon the soil as if to test its safety, and the very moment he did this was when true danger reared its ugly head – quite literally. The ground before the pair heaved upwards and erupted violently, clearing the way for a most hideous-looking creature to make its entrance into the upper world. Something so abominable could be none other than a bog-monster – a foul, angry beast that took pleasure in tearing the limbs from the clueless wanderers of the bayou. It hissed and gnashed its teeth furiously, using its leathery green arms to pull itself further out of the mud. "Run, damn it!" Swaizzo yelled and turned to sprint away. He slipped and slid upon the mire clumsily, and was stopped only when a slimy tentacle twisted around his leg and jerked him back towards the swamp monster. The remaining tentacles lined across its back thrashed about wildly, splattering mud and dirt in all directions. "Yevrin!" Swaizzo called in terror, trying to squirm his way out of the beast's powerful grip while being dragged closer to his death, "Help me, for god sake, HELP ME!"

Yevrin was shocked when then swamp thing burst out of nowhere and began thrashing about. That feeling quickly wore off though, to be replaced with annoyance. It was sending mud all over the place and now her clothing was even more soiled and she highly doubted the thing would pay for her cleaning bills. However, one could never tell if a thing were cognizant or not. She took a few steps closer to the monster, holding her poster before her and asked it, "Have you seen this jerk?" She waited a moment, side-stepping and dodging tentacles, before trying again. "It's alright if you ate him, killed him, or did some other horrible thing to him. I can understand -he's insufferable to be around. But if you happened to spit out his purse, I'd gladly take it off your hands-" A larger tentacle had slammed down right where she had been a moment before, which decided her that she would not get any information out of the beast. She quickly rolled up the scroll and put it away, and then drew her sword -she remembered that the beast was still holding Swaizzo. She scowled at it and tried to get through to it again. "Let him go," she said slowly and loudly and motioning to Swaizzo, as if that would make the thing understand her. "He did nothing to you. You just randomly started bullying him. Picking on the weak. I don't like it when anything picks on the weak."

Snarling angrily and pounding the ground with its fists and slew of tentacles, the creature paid no heed to Swaizzo’s cries for help, nor Yevrin’s query about the man on her wanted poster. The swamp monster didn't understand words, but more the moods that were tied to them. When Yevrin retired from asking about her debtor, and instead directed a more forceful tone towards the beast, it abruptly ceased its thrashing and turned its head to the side. Now facing her, it narrowed its yellow eyes and bared a monstrous row of pointed teeth. It hadn’t taken a liking to the stern tone in her voice, and every bit of its attention and anger was now focused on her. "Yevrin! Move!" Swaizzo shouted fearfully, the tentacle still wrapped tautly round his leg. As if his words were a cue for disaster, the monster roared ferociously and lifted the hybrid from the dirt, spun him around in one rapid motion and used his body and its momentum to knock he and Yevrin to the ground. Swaizzo sputtered wildly and coughed mud from his mouth, lifting his face from the dirt. "Damn it to hell!" He cursed and looked over his shoulder to the tentacle that still had his leg. With an unsteady hand, he reached for his pistol and slid it out of its holster. Now was as good a time as any to use some fire-power and a bit of moxy...He pointed the gun at the retched thing and pulled the trigger, the bullet making obvious impact. Quivering pieces of flesh flew through the air, but it wasn't enough to losen the monster's grip. "Do something! Cut it off! ANYTHING!" Swaizzo persisted to shout at Yevrin, all the while shooting more rounds of bullets into the flailing swamp monster.

Yevrin fell sideways into the mud, but quickly regained her feet. Her temper also rose quickly. For one, the swamp beast had just caused her to be covered in mud, with even her sword spattered with the filth. Second, it was picking on the weak, which was something she really detested. Last of all, the creature this beast had decided to pick on was her only guide out of this swampy hell and into a proper city. She had been unfazed by the monster's angry glare, and now sent one of her own at it. She slashed at the tentacles that came toward her, and edged closer to Swaizzo. She was curious about the odd projectile weapon he was using -there was nothing like it where she was from- but her curiosity to a backseat for once, as she focused on how to get Swaizzo free, and then get revenge on this swamp thing. Inconveniently, however, with Swaizzo shooting it made it a bit dangerous for her to get into the best position to sever the tentacle holding him. The monster would obviously twitch as she hacked at it, which would probably jerk the hybrid a bit. Possibly whatever shot he made at that moment would go astray -she had no idea of the prowess he actually with his weapon. Yevrin had no desire to risk herself to the chance that if that happened, the projectile could possibly hit her. As she continued keeping tentacles at bay around them, she replied testily to him, "If you want me to cut it off then quit shooting for a moment so I actually can!"

Swaizzo turned to Yevrin with a look of obvious surprise upon his face. In his panic, he hadn't even realized that his constant barrage of bullets might actually tag her if she were to try and free him. "Right, right!" He repeated what was meant to be an apology, creasing fire at once and withdrawing the gun to his chest. "Just hurry up and KILL it already!" He could feel the creature's appendage tighten around his ankle, its frightening strength threatening to shatter his bones as if they were mere twigs. Throughout these terrible turns of events, he was constantly jerked this way and that, being dragged closer to the monster's full-frontal wrath with every passing moment. One more instance that stalled either of them, and they might both end up becoming an afternoon snack for the local swamp monster of Lamiere..

As soon as Swaizzo ceased his fire, Yevrin took the opportunity to get closer to the tentacle that was holding him. She quickly decided the best place to severe it -close enough to the end that it was easier to cut at, but not close enough to Swaizzo so that a twitch or a mis-swing would endanger his leg. All the while she had to continually defend against tentacles. "Brace yourself as best you can," she shouted to Swaizzo as a warning, as she took a wide sweep with her sword at the surrounding tentacles, then quickly went down on one knee, pulled out a dagger, and plunged it deep into the tentacle holding him. She had expected the swamp monster to react violently and she had not been wrong. The tentacle thrashed, twitched, and shook, trying to get rid of her and her dagger, but she pressed down on it with her full weight and managed to keep her hold. She did not like to think of what was happening to Swaizzo right now, but knew the only thing that she could do for him was continue what she was doing. She started as quickly as possible to saw off the tentacle, which was not easy as it kept twisting and shaking. The monster's roars of anger, pain, and indignation were near deafening as she continued severing its tentacle. She had to trust to her peripheral vision to guard her against the stronger onslaught of tentacles coming against her. She could only swing wide and wildly to keep up some form of a guard, as she could not spare the focus and effort to come up with a proper defense. She became severely muddied, slimed, and bruised, but managed to keep the thing from getting a secure hold of her as it had with Swaizzo. She was almost done severing the tentacle -the stubborn thing had not released it's grip as she had vainly hoped- and she yelled to Swaizzo, "As soon as you're free you run clear of here and as far out of its reach until I can just see you."

Nodding furiously, Swaizzo waited with his jaw clenched shut tight, anticipating the ideal moment to bolt for it. Yevrin laboured to slice through the tentacle that had him caught, and when he found that she had done enough significant damage to it, he yanked his leg back towards him as forcefully as he could muster, tearing the appendage off at the deep incision she had made. Neglecting to thinking twice about the instructions she had given him, he scrambled to his muddied feet and dashed off into the forest of bog trees and brush. Panting heavily, he reached for the nearest tree trunk and leaned himself upon it, trying to get back what he could of his spent energy. "That was a bit close..." The hybrid wheezed, shaking off the remnants of the bloody tentacle that was still wrapped around his ankle. He looked over his shoulder to Yevrin, whom was still caught in the violent fray with beastie. Swaizzo may not have the heart to trek back over there and plunge himself into battle again, but he did know that Yevrin could use a bit of help right about now, especially after she had just used a great deal of her energy trying to save his skin. "Heads up Yevrin!" He shouted at her from afar. With a skillful swiftness, he slipped another fully loaded pistol from its holster, cocked it towards the enemy and fired multiple rounds into its green flesh with expert aim. All but one bullet hit the creature in the chest, while the last one whizzed by one of its flailing tentacles. It was enough damage to cause sufficient bleeding (and most certainly pain), and with both his efforts and Yevrin’s, it was becoming obvious that the swamp creature was growing weary of this fight. "Come on!" He resumed his fearful shouting, "Quit it and let's get the hell out of here!"

Yevrin would have preferred to increase her attempt to kill the horrid thing rather than run away from it, however, she had to admit that retreat was probably the best option for self-preservation. The swamp creature was thrashing even more violently in its pain, and she would prefer to be as far away from its tentacles as possible, rather than in the midst of them. She backed out of the mass of tentacles as quickly as she could, her sword and dagger constantly slashing at every inch of the monster that came within her reach. Doing this she managed to keep the beast from getting a firm hold on her, and she made it out all right, albeit extremely dirty and bruised. She backed up to where Swaizzo was, keeping her eyes on the swamp monster and her weapons ready in case it decided to renew the fight. "Where to now?" she asked.

Exhausted and eternally relieved, Swaizzo holstered his pistol and let himself fall backwards against the tree he was hiding behind, sliding down it until he came to sit on the ground. "I, I guess we have to go back up North." He sighed heavily, resting his face in his hands. The two had done it – they had actually escaped alive from the most violent creature living in the South, with no more than a few scrapes to show for it. By now the monster was as spent as he and Yevrin were, and it seemed likely that it wouldn’t be up for another battle. It slowed its terrible thrashing and growling, and eventually came to submerge itself into the watery soil once again, out of sight from the pair with no more than a misshapen hole in its place. As he sat there slumped upon the ground in silence, a thought struck Swaizzo so hard in his head that he bolted upright and widened his eyes in amazement. Yevrin, a perfectly good stranger, had just risked her own life to save his...A truly honorable act! He turned slowly to face her, mouth agape with astonishment. "Y- you just saved me..." He stammered and pointed at her somewhat foolishly, "You - you saved my bloody life!" Rushing up to her, he threw his arms around his heroin and laughed with great happiness into her shoulder, tears of joy flowing from his eyes. "Oh god, you wonderful person!" He leaned away from her and held her shoulders tightly. He had never felt so happy to be alive! "If there’s anything I can do to repay you, I’ll sure as hell do it, when ever you need it! Just say the word and I'll be there!"
